Poem: “Bay”

April 28: 30 days of new poems for National Poetry Month

Bay

Roadside snow mounds glitter
in the sun, their glints glistering
as bright as pyrite underneath
the clarity of fast-moving rivers
in the spring. Around the corner,
a lake in the sky. From my open
window, I throw a penny in, knowing
it will be there on the beach
when we descend to the bay.

No matter where in the world you
may wander, no matter who you
meet and what they’ll want to know
of you, you will always be able
to say you are from here, and they
will always find that beautiful.
